Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold
  • 1/2 cup whole milk, warm
  • 1/2 cup water, warm
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Combine warm milk, water, yeast, and sugar in a bowl. Let sit until frothy.
  2. Mix in flour and salt until a dough forms.
  3. Knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Shape into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for 1 hour.
  5. While chilling, shape cold butter into a rectangle and chill for another 30 minutes.
  6. Roll out the chilled dough into a rectangle and place the butter block in the center. Fold over the edges to seal.
  7. Roll out again into a rectangle; fold into thirds like a letter. Chill for another 30 minutes.
  8. Repeat the rolling and folding process two more times.
  9. Roll out the final dough into a large rectangle; cut into triangles and roll each triangle from base to tip to shape them.
  10. Place shaped croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper; let rise for about an hour until puffy.
  11. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  12. Beat an egg and brush it over each croissant for a golden finish.
  13. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
