Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons Instant Yeast
  • 1 cup Cold Whole Milk (or almond milk)
  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter (softened)
  • 1/4 cup All-Purpose Flour (for butter layer)
  • 1 cup Dark Chocolate Batons or Semi-Sweet Chocolate
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tablespoon Milk (omit for dairy-free)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Warm the milk slightly and mix it in with dry ingredients until combined.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  3. Prepare the butter layer by mixing softened butter with flour into a smooth consistency; shape into a rectangle and refrigerate.
  4. Roll out the risen dough and encase the chilled butter layer. Fold and roll out three times to laminate.
  5. Cut and fill each triangle with chocolate batons, rolling them tightly.
  6. Let croissants rise for another 30 minutes on a lined baking sheet.
  7. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Brush croissants with egg wash and bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
